This project consisted of the restoration of one of the counter-scarps of a 17th century Chateau in La Chapelle Gauthier, Ile de France, France. The 30 meter long wall was jointed with cement and missed several of its head stones. The project’s first phase was the replacement of missing and damaged head stones, and the second phase was the removal of cement joints, consolidation of loose stones, and re jointing with lime based mortar. The project duration was 12 working days.

My vision was to extend the public space to serve the very dense area surrounding the site. As for the library itself, the concept was retrieved from the periscope, to deflect indirect light into the library in order not to damage stacks.

This project's brief is a competition launched by the Municipal Court of Byblos for a new building that houses the municipality, townhall, police department, and auditorium space, along with all the programs that go along with them (ex. Meeting Rooms, Technical Areas, ...)

The project's site is at the entrance of the city of Byblos and is 3904 sqm; whereas the project's baseprint is 2000 sqm

The concept is derived from the Old Citadel of the city of Byblos, and the project represents this fortress with the effect the fortress keeps on the person's visual memory.

2012

The project brief was a requirement for a residential building in Mechmech, Lebanon. The building was to hold 6 apartments of 90 sqm each. Lot area is 750 sqm (Superficial Exploitation: 25%, General Exploitation: 0.5) and the project baseprint area is 253 sqm

The building had a single wall separating the day space from the night space (being the living spaces with kitchen and dining room vs. Bedrooms and WCs)

Hybrid Architecture - Infrastructure + Social/Cultural

Fashion Center for Local Fashion Designers + Clear Water Distribution Center

The project brief requirement a marriage between two different programs: one being Infrastructural (Water Distribution) the other being Social/Cultural (Fashion Center).

The proposal was mainly affected by the Kaslik strip, where the site is located. The site is composed of two different lots divided by a road, the first being a flat surface at the level of the road, and the other being a Terrain Vague (as described by Sola Molares). The terrain Vague is an excavated lot, and then left before the building structure began. The total surface area of the site is 5804 sqm.

Concept

     To render the program user of the building into a model

Below, in red is the path intended for the user to walk through to access all functions. Through that path, the user experiences that he/she is a model for different urban functions, whether the urban space provided by the project, or the road. The path also forms a circulation around two water containers (Black Squares) that pierce through the whole building, and are connected underground.

Facade Concept

     Clear vs Distorted sight between inside and outside

Looking at a water container, only if the angle at which we are looking at the container at is 90 degrees that we see clearly. Once we are not looking perpendicularly at the container, the image becomes distorted. That led to the location of opennings in the facade. As for the choice of material, the early choice was aluminum cladding. However, studying the impact of aluminum the environment, with its very high CO releases while manufacturing, and due to its complete opacity, the choice was changed into Polycarbonate. Polycarbonate renders the building more environmentally suitable, and the view becomes distorted, without being completely opaque, just like in looking at a water container.
